Creating a Holistic Wellbeing Experience to Attract Wellness Travel & Tourism

Strategic ways hotels can reinforce health and wellness offerings to prospective guests

The final piece of the wellbeing puzzle is educating your entire team about what your hotel offers guests. All your staff members should be clear on the purpose of guest fitness spaces and wellness programs as well as their principal benefits.  
 

Strategic Internal Communication to Reinforce Your Wellbeing Philosophy 

This education should be seamlessly communicated across all areas of the business, from the front desk to housekeeping. Embed your wellbeing philosophy from the top down and communicate with your staff at every stage. Ways to educate your team could include: 
  • Lunch and learn programs 
  • Hands-on wellbeing sessions 
  • Benefits on top of fitness-based perks  
  • Activating flexible working practices 
Consistency is key. The message should be the same across all staff, from restaurant to gym, and include information on everything from mealtimes to quiet hours. 

External Communication Strategy to Engage and Prepare Guests  

Don’t forget external communications. You could offer the most state-of-the-art facilities in the world and the greatest wellbeing offerings your guests have ever seen, but if you don’t let them know and prepare them for the experience, they’ll never take advantage of them.  

Begin the fitness onboarding process well before guests arrive. When you send pre-arrival communications: 
  • Remind them to bring sports apparel with them.  
  • Inform them of your property’s fitness and wellness offerings. 
  • Tell them about gym opening times and usage etiquette. 
  • Share what may be rented or purchased onsite. 
  • Inform guests of social media hashtags to use during their stay. 
  • Consider social-based promotions that encourage guests to share content in exchange for points or perks. 
The external communication strategy should also include how you engage guests onsite during their stay and how to keep the conversation going after they check out.

Don’t forget to incorporate feedback received in Guest Satisfaction Surveys. This feedback process will help you understand guests’ likes and dislikes, pain and pleasure points as it relates to your fitness spaces and wellbeing amenities. You want guests to view your offerings as a route to wellbeing rather than something transactional. By encouraging and incorporating their feedback, you create an organic way to stay ahead of the trends and engage your guests in meaningful ways.  

Ideas for Engaging Wellbeing Influencers 

Consider offering a free stay for wellbeing influencers. In exchange for traditional media or social media coverage, offer a voucher-based reviews incentive. Or develop an email campaign encouraging guests to submit reviews of the gym and wellness programs in exchange for loyalty points or other perks. Don’t forget to secure permission to reuse and repost influencer-generated content for promotional purposes.
